My horses blanket rubbed the hair off her shoulders, what can i use to help the hair grow back?

When i got my horse she had shoulder rub but it wasn't raw. I had a blanket on her when it was cold and now her skin is rubbed off and it's all raw. I want to help it heal and help the hair grow back. What can I use to help it heal and what can i use to help the hair grow back? Will it grow back white? I also want to use natural remedies (or stuff i can find around the house) if possible. thanks!

how about getting her a propper fitting blanket and a shoulder guard to pervent rubs in the future.. it's sad that you waited till the skin is raw to do something about the problem. something as simple as showsheen would have helped with the rubbing or loosening/tightening the chest straps.. i hope she doesn't get an infection and that the hair doesn't grow back white...

If it's bothering her enough she'll take care of it with nitric oxide. Just leave plenty of healthy food available and she'll be fine.

neosporin. will help the sores heal super quick and keep the skin moist so hai r should grow back in a a few weeks. probably wont grow back white, since it was superficial rubs.

First if her blanket is rubbing your horses hair off i would invest in a shoulder gaurd, they are around $30 but will stop your hores hair from rubbing off around her shoulders, try dover, here is one that they have http://www.doversaddlery.com/flex-rider-... you can get them at really any well known tack store or you could try one around you.

Bacon grease works, and it shouldn't grow back white since it's not a deep or large injury.

MTG. it's great stuff, but dont over use it, so once in the morning and once at night, it works wonders.

You cant. You have to get a shoulder guard. The hair will grow back the same color as it was before.

get rid of th blanket unless you have a good reason that you don;t want him or her to grow their hair coat. they don't need a blanket. they are horses, not human.

google "do horses need blankets". i don't know how to put the link in but it showed many sites. also they sell natural remedies at tack sstores. or look up naatural horse care online, and bbuy fromm there.

My horse did that at an event once. It was very frusterating! I put vitamin E cream on it to encourage hair growth. It only took about a month to grow back.

The best way to fix this problem is don't put a blanket on your horse. Unless the horse has a particular health problem, leave the blankets in the store. Given a chance the horse will grow his own blanket and get rid of it when the time is right. of course now the damage is done and in order to keep the horse warm you will be forced to continue blanketing till the weather changes. But for next year, remember what has happend this year and learn from experience

You need to get her a rub vest, these are lycra or have a shiney underside to prevent the rubbing, also consider getting a different rug - Weatherbeetas are really good as they are shaped around the shoulder.

As to helping the skin to heal, several things could be used. Zinc and castor oil cream or similar will help prevent any rubbing and encourages healing, but the best thing I've found is 'Multiderm'. It comes as a cream, spray and powder and is excellent. When we bought our colt he had a wound about the size of a cd on his shoulder which he had had for nearly a year. It was all that was left of a much more serious wound he sustained as a foal. The breeder had been unable to get the rest of it to heal. He got the cream on twice a day and within a week or two it had started to heal and it was completly healed within a couple of months. The multiderm kills any bugs that could cause an infection and encourages skin growth. In the UK you can get it from a feed or tack shop.

The hair shouldn't grow back white as that requires quite a lot of injury but you need to prevent as well as treat this.

To help it heal put on 'purple spray'.. i dont know if you get that anywhere except this country, but yeah.its a wound cleaning, fly repellent purple spray that you put on cuts and stuff.

Get another blanket or a shoulder guard or something

to help the hair grow back -milking cream, or just plain good old vaseline :P unscented vaseline. It works a treat, i promise

MTG works wonders, I highly recommend it. And yes, also try putting a shoulder guard/bra on your horse under the blanket to cut back on the rubbing.

Simple - get a blanket that fits properly in the first place and doesn't restrict movement as its this restriction that is rubbing the hair away. Sorry if this seems a bit of a curt answer - I work with horses with a variety of hats on and have for years and its amazing that people think about saddle fit but not about rug fit and they wear rugs for a lot longer! Try leaving the rug off so that the restriction is taken away and nothing is rubbing the hair away.

What a shame you have inherited this problem - try good old vaseline/petroleum jelly slapper all over her shoulders. Its has no chemicals/perfumes in etc and will help the rug slide over the area. The hair will come back on its own.

bacon grease...sounds bad but it's an old man's remedy and REALLY works.
