How can I make my hair grow in past my shoulders?

My hair grows up to my shoulders and then stops. I want it to grow longer but it just will not. Any suggestions, especially if I am lacking a nutrient or vitamin. Thanks.

Actually, I had this same problem. I asked my cosmetologist about it and she said that it isn't that my hair is not growing it is that I am breaking off little tiny pieces of the ends all of the time. She said that every time I blow dry my hair or brush my hair little tiny bits break off and therefore, it seems like my hair isn't growing when it really is. She suggested using a good conditioner every day but not washing it every day, not using a blow dryer and not brushing it any more then necessary. She said that this thing about brushing your hair 1000 strokes a day is just a myth and only damages your hair. I found that the less attention I pay to my hair the faster and longer it grew and the better it looked. My husband thought he had terminal length hair when we were first married. We had a rock band and he wanted his hair to grow longer. I told him to stop blow drying it. Before he knew it, his hair was down to his waist.

Maybe you are lacking nutrients. It is very important to have lot of nutrients, as a matter of fact most of your bodies nutrients goes into growing your hair and making it look healthy. Also you should not use harsh chemicals on your hair like hair spray etc. Also using a hair dryer, and a flat iron can also damage your hair resulting in no growth. Hope that helps.

Maybe you could trim it? You may have split ends, split ends stop hair from growing you know.

Many things can affect the growth of hair or lack thereof. It can be blow dryers, too much coloring, not using conditioner, brushing it too much, not trimming split ends every few weeks, using a shampoo not for your hair type, health problems, vitamin deficiency due to not eating nutritionally, and too hot in the house especially if one lives in a harsh winter climate. Though your question is about lack of growth, I want to tell you you can have growth once you know what I have done to my hair that was to the point of being very thin most of my life as a child and teen. I can say I have been dying my hair for many many years (30+), and my hair is waist length, do not dye it more than 1-2 times a year though very light blonde color (use a hair color stripper and not a toner) on brunette almost black hair, get very many complements, do take medications necessary to my health that doesn't affect it, have not fallen for those ads to buy vitamins for hair growth, get my husband to trim my split ends or at least a 3/4"-1" even cut for flowability, get complements for my soft hair as people and teens love to feel it, do not wash or brush it roughly every day, use a spray detangler even the children's type if nothing is around, don't buy expensive shampoos or conditioners even if they say "for colored hair only," and never get into a shower after I have dyed my hair as if one area is missed you can irritate your eyes, dye my eyebrows to match (do not recommend it to anyone if you don't know what you are doing and could cause blindness!), never use gloves to dye it, and never use vaseline around the hair line. When I say I have been doing this for many many years and had a mother and aunt beautician, I know what I am talking about going from a very dark hair color to stripping it out for blonde with complements every time I go out.
