Why wont my hair grow past this certain length?!?

I cut my hair up to my chin about 4 years ago. And i'm trying to grow my hair back out to its past-chest-length cut.

It grows out to about my shoulders, but it like, layers it self, so i constantly get it cut, so it doesnt look as random.

I hardly ever straighten my hair, and i only blow dry it.

I ALWAYS condition it.

It just wont grow past the tops of my shoulders!!!!!!

but my BANGS grow like crazy!

can somebody please tell me why my hair is "Cutting" itself...and just not growing?

It sounds like you might be getting split ends. Whenever your hair "cuts" itself, get it trimmed. There are also some shampoos/conditioners which help to promote hair growth. If that doesn't work, try talking to your stylist. Oh, one more thing, you might want to put in a creme before you blowdry. It protects your hair and it keeps your style looking better for longer. Your blowdryer may be your hair, so if you don't blowdry it for styling purposes, I would suggest taking a break from blowdrying for a while and see if that doesn't make a difference...Hope I helped!

in the question you said you constantly cut it the problem your hair won't grow past your shoulder is because you cut it! lol if you're actually not getting it cut and meant smethinig different you should probably get professional help beecause something is wrong

You say you don't straighten it but blowdrying can be damaging too. Sounds like you've got split ends. Always use a heat protection spray before you blow-dry or straighten! I like the 44 Iron guard by Chi. Also make sure you cut your hair really regulary and it sounds like you do. Trimming it helps it become more healthy and grow faster.

OMG, the same thing happened to me and I hate it so much! I cut my hair when I was 16 from waist length to really short and it has never grown much since then. It stops about 3 inches past my shoulders, when all I want in life (some days, at least) is long hair.

I don't know what to tell you. I have spoken to good hair pros and even a doctor or two and they blame it on physical changes. Hormones, metabolism, like that.

My husband has this incredible, thick hair that grows as long as he wants it. It's unfair, but I've seen so many guys with great hair. Maybe we need more testosterone.
